Writing

I write non-fiction and fiction, usually exploring themes of grief, illness, and resilience, often set against the realities of mountain landscapes.

My memoir about ‘grief, collapse, recovery and big mountains’ will be published by Chatto & Windus in Spring 2027. It previously was named Runner Up for the Bridport Memoir Award 2024/5. You can read an extract of the prize-winning draft here.

I have a Creative Writing MFA from Birkbeck (2022), supervised by Toby Litt (also way back in 2007 a DPhil in English Literature from Oxford University).

I’ve had creative non-fiction published at: 3AM, MIR Online. I also write about mountains and life on Substack under the title Beyond The Mountain.

For journalism samples, see: Runner’s World; The Alpine Club (and also in print in the 2024 and 2025 Alpine Club Journal); UKClimbing.
